HydroBurst HB125 Static Pipe Bursting System
The ultimate in productivity for potable
water and sewer rehabilitation in 4-16” diameters.

Static bursting has dramatically grown in popularity due to the new trend of installing pre-chlorinated pipe in potable water applications. It is also increasingly popularity in sewer rehab due to ease of use.

Based on close cooperation with contractors in North America and Europe, HammerHead has developed an innovative new static burster that includes a number of features borrowed from HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling).

In this compact, powerful unit, every feature contributes to high productivity and success of the burst: hydraulic leveling jacks at the 4 corners save pit prep time and adjust for changes during the burst, a hydraulic stabilizer brace extends for shoring during rod push-out, the powered rod threader saves time with each rod, and the rods themselves weigh only 52 lbs. to cut operator fatigue.

Each one-meter rod is pushed into the host pipe in 2.8 seconds, which slashes the customary rod insertion time by more than half!
There are no jaws for gripping rods to slip or wear out -- pullback is driven entirely through oilfield-proven torqued API-threaded joints. New to static bursting is 800 ft/lbs of rotational torque which permits drilling through collapsed lines.

Key Product Features

Platform

• Design platform similar to Horizontal Directional Drill Pit Launch without rotary backreaming capability.
• Variable displacement pump with horsepower limiter provides maximum combination of hydraulic flow and pressure for high productivity.
• Versatile machine for 4" (100 mm) - 20" (610 mm) Diameter
• One-man machine operation.
• Two hour calculated round trip (push rod out and burst 300' (92m) @ 75 tons).
• Maximum rack velocity (not including rod threading time): payout - 30 fpm (9 mpm), pullpack - 7 fpm (2 mpm)
• Anti-bungee front vise prevents rods from rebounding and slowing production.

Rod Design

• One hydraulic stroke per rod.
• Proven oil field rod design for high tonnage pushing without buckling.
• Rod rotation capability for drilling through collapsed lines and avoiding host pipe exit.
• 2-3/4" (70mm) diameter rods fit down narrow / encrusted 4" (100mm) cast or ductile iron pipes.
• Lightweight alloy rods (52 lb (24kg) per rod) help reduce operator fatigue.
• Power threader for joining and breaking rod joints.
• Pull back is applied at the drill chuck to avoid rod slippage.

Bursting Applications

• Potable water, sewer and gas line bursting: 4" to 16" (100mm - 400mm).
• Ductile iron, galvanized steel and steel slitting: 4" to 12" (100mm - 300mm).
• Bursting below the water table or in free flowing sandy conditions.
• Installing pre-chlorinated potable water pipes.
