The Wyderka’s, owners of Heiden Plumbing have been in business for more than 75 years and are no strangers to trenchless technologies.
They’ve used pneumatic systems toreplace and/or install new laterals for years. Recently, they were introduced to the new PortaBurst PB30 static pipe bursting system and were excited to try it out.
At 8:00 am, on a nice sunny day in June, Heiden Plumbing installed two sewer laterals in the Milwaukee metro area. The first installation was completed by 11:00 am.
Because the sewer lateral connected to the main at the manhole, they were able to utilize the manhole as their pulling pit. This further reduced the excavation required to install this new lateral.
The second lateral was a little more of a challenge. The lateral connected at the main at the street, so a pit was dug down to the lateral and the PB30 placed in the pit. The pipe was pulled in from the basement of the house. Due to space limitations, the 13’ pipe sticks were fused as the job progressed. Including fusion time, the lateral was burst and replaced in less than an hour.
The customers were very happy about the small amount of disturbed landscaping and the efficiency of the lateral replacement. The customers’ sewer systems were back up and running in no time at all and you could hardly tell that Heiden Plumbing had ever even been there.
